Legal Reference Librarian

More about me:

I am the Legal Reference Librarian at the Law Library and have been here since August of 2007. I arrived in Omaha just in time for a lovely fall and a balmy winter. After living in north Texas for the last few years, Nebraska weather comes as a relief. Some of my colleagues and neighbors have commented that we have had an exceptionally cold winter. Actually, I haven’t minded it at all. Summers in north Texas are hot. In fact, the saying in those parts is that God doesn’t send north Texans to hell because he doesn’t believe in double jeopardy.

My wife, Deb, and I have been married since 1970. She grew up in Oklahoma City and I migrated south from southwestern Pennsylvania. I am what southerners refer to as a “damn Yankee.” A Yankee is someone from the north. A “damn Yankee” is someone from the north who goes south and stays. Oh well, this mixed marriage has produced three children and three grandchildren. And we are finally out of the south. Deb and I have actually lived in several states, including Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, and California. We tend to enjoy wherever we happen to be at the time.

I enjoy walking/running, fishing, playing with my two Pekingnese, and seeing my grandkids grow up. I am a much better grandparent than I ever was a parent. I enjoy singing and playing the Native American flute, although I am not very good at the latter. Deb and I are a united couple: she’s Protestant and I’m Catholic. When we moved to Omaha we decided to compromise on churches: I attend the Catholic Church and we both attend her church. Hey, it’s how our marriage has survived for so long. Actually, I was a Protestant minister for 30 years before becoming Catholic and Deb has tolerated me in spite of my apostasy!

Writing these reflections:

There is nothing quite like reflecting upon scripture. I feel privileged to participate in these daily reflections. The ones I have read are so well done. I hope to contribute in my own small way to our efforts here at Creighton. Although we don’t know whether or not St. Francis ever said it, one idea associated with him is that we preach the gospel always and, when necessary, use words. May these reflections be gospel words, good news, of our gracious Lord Jesus Christ.
