OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE
Section 504 of the
Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
provide for reasonable accommodations and services to qualified individuals
with disabilities. Services for students with disabilities are provided to
qualified students to ensure equal access to educational opportunities,
programs, and activities in the most integrated setting possible.

SERVICES PROVIDED
The Office of Disability Accommodations
(ODA) offers a variety of services to qualified Creighton students. These
services include, but may not be limited to:
- Accommodations for architectural
and structural barriers
- Counseling, advising and
scheduling assistance
- Campus orientation
- Academic accommodations, which
may include
- special testing arrangements
- provision of educational
materials in alternate media (e.g. text on tape or handouts in
Braille)
- readers
- scribes
- note takers
- sign language interpreters
- Letters to instructors
explaining accommodations
- Accessible campus housing

ELIGIBILITY
Creighton University requires that written documentation
of a student’s disability be submitted to the Coordinator before any
assistance can be arranged. This written documentation must be provided by
a qualified evaluator, as determined by the Coordinator, and should include
current recommendations of accommodations for a post-secondary setting.
Documentation of a disability is kept on file in the Coordinator’s
office. Students must sign a release of information form so that
appropriate university personnel (e.g. Dean’s Office, instructors,
Housing, Public Safety, etc.) may be advised of a disability and any needed
accommodation.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Disclosure of a disability
to appropriate University personnel is the student’s responsibility.
The University cannot act on verbal or written statements by a parent,
counselor, or teacher. If specific accommodations are needed, the student
must notify the Coordinator, provide documentation, and complete a written
needs assessment. Once acceptable documentation of a disability is on file,
reasonable accommodations will be provided as soon as possible.
