OVERVIEW
The Educational Opportunity Center for Adult Learners (EOCAL) is funded by the U.S.
Department of Education and hosted by Creighton University. The Center provides counseling and information on college admissions
to qualified adults (including veterans and senior citizens) who want to
enter or continue a program of post-secondary education. An important
objective of the Center is to counsel participants on financial aid options
to assist in the college application process. The Center serves adult
populations within the Omaha Metropolitan Area (Douglas, Cass, Sarpy,
Pottawattamie, and Washington Counties).

PURPOSE
The purpose of EOCAL is to increase the
number of adult participants who enroll in post-secondary education
institutions.

SERVICES PROVIDED
All services are provided free of charge!
Generally, EOCAL provides academic assessment, career guidance, college
admissions and financial aid information and assistance, and referrals to
community agencies to qualified participants to ensure their successful
enrollment or re-enrollment into a program of post-secondary education. Other
services typically include, but may not be limited to, the following:
Educational Information
- Serve as a clearinghouse for information on
post-secondary institutions
- Access to a reference library of academic,
career, and financial aid information
- Lists of directories for post-secondary
institutions
Application Assistance
- Postsecondary admissions applications
- Financial aid applications
- Web-based applications for admissions or
financial aid
Financial Aid
- Information on federal and state financial aid
programs
- State and local scholarship programs
- Scholarship sources for minorities, women,
people with disabilities, and other groups
Career Guidance
- Provide career assessment and planning
workshops
- Administer interest and career exploration
questionnaires
Academic Advising
- Assist with planning and selecting college
courses

ELIGIBILITY
Participants must reside in the
metropolitan Omaha area. Participants must be at least 19 years old
and two-thirds of them must be potential first-generation college students
and low-income persons. A veteran, regardless of age, may participate if
otherwise eligible.

PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES
Participants' responsibilities include a
desire to pursue post secondary education and meeting with program staff to
discuss needs for service. Participants are encouraged to attend at least
three workshops during the year.
