Nebraska Healthy Marriage Initiative (NHMI)
The Center for Marriage and Family has a $150,000.00 grant from the state of Nebraska to evaluate, over a three year period, this federally funded effort to promote safe and stable families by helping couples build the skills and knowledge needed to form and maintain healthy lasting relationships and marriages. NHMI, which is designed to help couples make informed decisions about a healthy marriage, includes engaged couples, couples who are dating, parenting couples, couples about to become parents, married couples, couples just thinking about marriage, Spanish speaking couples, and single persons. A final report is expected in early 2007. For further information about NHMI go to www.healthymarriage.nebraska.org.
The Center for Marriage and Family conducted an evaluation of this program sponsored by the Archdiocese of Omaha. H.E.A.R.T.S. provides a supportive environment for parents to grow in their understanding and appreciation of the mystery of human sexuality and to learn effective strategies for communicating with their children about sexuality. H.E.A.R.T.S. consists of small parent group sessions, each devoted to a particular topic, at selected locations across the Archdiocese of Omaha. A final report of the H.E.A.R.T.S. evaluation was completed in August 2006. For information about H.E.A.R.T.S., call 402-556-8219.
The Center for Marriage and Family has begun a year-long evaluation of this program sponsored by the Archdiocese of Omaha that is essentially the H.E.A.R.T.S. program for Spanish-speaking parishes and parents. A final report of the CORAZONES evaluation is expected in summer 2007. For information about CORAZONES, call 402-556-8219.
BRIDGES (Building Relationship, Interaction, Decision-making, Growth and Enrichment through Spirituality) is a program, based on the Center’s research, to help couples identify their strengths and weaknesses around spirituality and religion and move toward building a deeper, more enjoyable bond. For more information about this program, who it is for and what is involved, or to purchase BRIDGES, go to www.creighton.edu/MarriageandFamily. A facilitator’s manual is being written for couples who want to use BRIDGES in a group format.
