Nationally Recognized Native American Speakers
Several well respected Native American speakers will speak to the students on various issues that Native Students face when pursuing their education.
Career Tours
Students will all have a chance to take career tours in which they will get to tour facilities and talk toprofessionals in a career field the student has expressed an interest. Students can select from careers in the health sciences, education, information technology, journalism and others.
All Nations Powwow
At the conclusion of the Retreat the Native Students Association will sponsor its second annual powwow.
Career Tracks
Art Sculpture
Relief Sculpture Studio Students will create their own sculpture to take back home. The student using tools and objects will create impressions and images into clay. Once the clay image is completed plaster of paris will be poured over the clay. The dried plaster will then be removed from the clay, revealing the final sculpture.
Business
Learn about careers in Business. Thirty-three full-time faculty members provide instruction in accounting, economics, finance, information systems & technology, entrepreneurship, and marketing. The College of Business Administration offers a four-year undergraduate degree program, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) and three graduate degree programs; Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Information Technology Management (MS-ITM), and the Dual Master of Business Administration/MS-Information Technology Management.
Culinary Arts
This hands-on session is for students who would like to explore working as a respected Chef, manager or supervisor in a fast-paced hotel, a fine dining restaurant or a Country Club. The mission of the Culinary Arts program at Metropolitan Community College is to educate, advance and support the practice and management of the food industry. Classes in this program involve a combination of theory and extensive hands-on skill building. Hands on experience in preparing Native American Soup. Metropolitan Community College: Fort Omaha Campus
Communication
A degree in communication is a flexible one, because in addition to learning ABOUT communication, students learn HOW TO communicate more effectively. The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively is highly valued by employers in many fields and necessary when in leadership positions. Students in this session will work on transforming a presentation to meet the needs of a given audience.
Dentistry
The purpose of the School of Dentistry is to educate students who can demonstrate the attainment of competence and the progression toward proficiency in providing for the oral health needs of society. Students will drill out a cavity preparation in a tooth model and pour a silver filling.
Education
“Learning passionately” is what an education degree is all about! In this interactive session students discuss the benefits of a career in Education, and some vital points to consider when selecting a college.
Explore the Sciences
From Algae to Bison to Glaciers: What Satellite Imagery Can Tell Us About Our Changing Earth.
Creighton University Environmental professors will explain and demonstrate how they are using satellite imagery to address questions about prairie ecology, bison grazing, water quality, glacier coverage and global change. Includes an opportunity to use the latest software to view and analyze landscapes of your choice: from Alaska to the Gulf Coast to the Winnebago and Omaha Reservations in Nebraska.
Law
Students will also learn about how to apply to law school and what it’s like to be a law student. This will be a mock classroom experience and tour of Creighton University Law School.

Cardiology – Heart Health Awareness, Importance of Nutrition and a specialized program addressing
Smoking & Adolescents.
Native American Studies
Native American Studies was initiated at Creighton University in the fall of 2002. We are the only Jesuit University in the world to offer this major. We are also the only University in Nebraska to offer Native Studies as a major. Our program is listed in the Guide to Native American Studies Programs in the United States and Canada, Robert M. Nelson, Editor and in the American Indian Education Guide.
Social Work
The preparation for professional social work practitioners merges a liberal arts education and social work theory and practice. The result is a social work practitioner who has a broad knowledge base and marketable skills. A social work degree is a very marketable degree.
Theater
Explore the possibilities of an exciting career in Theater: acting, stagecraft, makeup design, costume design, broadcasting, and dance.
Health Care Track
Students will participate in a rotating health care track. Students will be divided into small groups to rotate around to stations for each discipline. Students will spend approximately 35 minutes at each station.
Nursing
- Nurses work to prevent illness, promote health, and provide health care for ill, disabled or dying individuals of all ages, families, groups and communities. Students will engage with nursing students in learning about the profession of nursing, including different places to practice, the importance of caring for the ill, and simple health care procedures like taking blood pressure.
Occupational Therapy
- Occupational therapists assess and facilitate people to be able to participate in meaningful life activities once they have experienced a short or long term disability. Students will interact with occupational therapy students in hands-on activities including learning what it is like to have a physical disability and how that would affect one’s daily life.
Pharmacy
- Pharmacists dispense and regulate medication needs and provide education regarding medication management and healthy lifestyle choice related to disease. Students will interact with pharmacy students learning about drugs, their side effects and how important the role of the pharmacist is on the health care team.
Physical Therapy
- Physical therapists assess, diagnose and treat disorders that affect movement and mobility related to functional abilities. Students will interact with current physical therapy students in hands-on activities including physical assessments, modalities, and typical treatments used by physical therapists.
