Public Relations and Information Services

Publications / Web Content Management

• SERVICES •

Write, edit, design and oversee production and distribution of the following University publications:

· Creighton University Magazine, quarterly magazine for alumni & friends covering all aspects of Creighton schools, colleges and departments

· Creighton Today, a daily online campus newsletter

· Creighton Parent, a newsletter for parents of Creighton students distributed three times a year

Produce monthly e-mail newsletter for Creighton alumni, AlumWire, in conjunction with the Alumni Relations Office.

Write and supervise production of the following individual deans' newsletters. These publications are paid for by the respective deans' offices:

· The Dental Dean's Newsletter, three times a year for School of Dentistry alumni

· CoBA Update, twice a year for College of Business Administration alumni

In addition, production assistance in layout and design is provided for several departmental newsletters.

Content management of first, second, and some third tiers of the University website. Advise and counsel all University divisions on web design and content.

Provide advice and counsel to all University divisions on the uses and design of publications, including information on how to take advantage of the University's Graphic Standards Manual.

News Media Relations

SERVICES •

Responds to news media requests for information about the University or for interviews with faculty members or administrators.

Generates positive publicity locally, regionally and nationally about Creighton people and programs through the use of news releases, pitch letters and personal cultivation of news media personnel.

Manages University Speakers Bureau and prepares Creighton Faculty Experts Guide in both printed and web versions. The web version is located at

Provides news media advice and counsel to all University divisions, including spokesperson training and prepping for interviews.

Manages news media communications in campus emergencies and in cases where University personnel have made news that could harm the University's image and reputation.

Produces public radio program Dateline: Creighton, which airs every Thursday at 11:30 a.m. on KIOS 91.5 FM. If you have news for Dateline: Creighton, contact producer and host Cindy Workman, 280-2969 or cworkman@creighton.edu.

Provides assistance in developing and placing op-ed pieces written by faculty experts.

Advertising / Marketing / Graphic Standards

SERVICES •

The Public Relations & Information Department manages the University's image advertising program.

The Public Relations & Information Department is a resource for university departments which wish to place advertising. The advertising and marketing coordinator for Public Relations can assist individual schools, colleges and departments with advertising and marketing strategy, budget development, creative, production and placement decisions.

The Public Relations department is responsible only for budgeting for the University's image advertising. All other schools, colleges and departments are responsible for all advertising costs associated with their individual advertising and marketing projects.

All schools, colleges or departments placing advertising should alert the Public Relations department so that department is aware of the various advertising messages being disseminated and can assure that Creighton is able to take advantage of the best rates possible as well as the most advantageous scheduling. If possible, Public Relations should be given copies of all advertising prior to it being disseminated.

All Creighton University advertising must include the official CU logo as defined by the University's Graphic Standards.

Graphic Standards Policies

All Creighton University schools, colleges, departments and individual employees must conform to the official Graphic Standards of the University in all official written and electronic communications disseminated to audiences outside the campus. The Graphic Standards manual is located on the web at

The Graphic Standards Policy of Creighton University is managed by the Public Relations & Information Department. Questions about graphic standards should be addressed to the Public Relations & Information Department. There is to be no deviation from the Graphic Standards without express, written approval of Public Relations.

Anyone desiring to use the Creighton logo should first consult the Graphic Standards manual to insure correct usage. The logo must be used on all official school, college or department correspondence, including department web pages. The logo should not be used on individuals' personal web sites which are not official departmental communications tools.

Events Management

SERVICES •

Public Relations & Information manages six annual all-University events:

  • · Dinner and Basketball Game for Priests and Brothers
  • · President's Convocation and Reception
  • · Student Honors Recognition Luncheon
  • · May Commencement
  • · University Welcome to Parents of New Students
  • · December Commencement

Assists with planning and execution of University Relations events such as endowed chair inaugurals and alumni events in Omaha.

Is available for advice and counsel on additional events such as building dedications and ground-breakings. Such advice and counsel consists of recommendations for planning, assistance with drawing up budgets and ensuring that the President's Office is aware of and approves of events plans

The Public Relations & Information Department is also responsible for assisting the President's office and Development department with other events, including strategizing, scheduling, logistics, writing and other support.
