ADA Meeting - January 27th, 2005


Members Present: John Baxter, Amy Bones, Barbara Brock, Teresa Lynch, Mark Panning, Wade Pearson, Lennis Pederson, Betsey Reese, Rich Rossi.


Unable to Attend: Andrew Akright, Ann Ryan Haddad, Bill Hill, Andrea Jahn, Amy Matthews, Rene Padilla, Cathy Pederson, Rebecca Pettit, John Pierce.


Guests: Chuck Lenosky, Terry Oswald


Minutes: December 2, 2004 meeting minutes were approved by Amy Bones and seconded by Teresa Lynch.


Rene Padilla was inadvertently left off the list of people unable to attend the December 2, 2004 meeting.


Chuck Lenosky lead a dialogue about classroom accessibility. Members of the Committee talked about podium and lecture standards. Discussion included the Desirability of the tiered classroom and preference was given to sloped auditoriums.


Wade Pearson asked that classrooms be equipped with adjustable height tables in classrooms for the students.


Chuck Lenosky volunteered to get price information for podiums that could be used in classrooms.


The ADA Committee Goals for 2005 were accepted with a motion by Rich Rossi and seconded by Amy Bones.


Lennis Pederson reported that no specific projects to remove architectural barriers were accomplished in the past months. ADA compliance is always incorporated into remodel projects that are accomplished.


Amy Bones distributed a draft of the ADA Non-Compliance Grievance Procedures. The draft will be considered at the February meeting.


The Committee discussed the ADA Awareness Forum scheduled for April 21, 2005 in the Skutt Student Center. Rich Rossi has been asked to develop a forum budget. Barb Brock is dialoguing with Dr. Kellar regarding his involvement in the forum and what his theme in the keynote address may be. Wade Pearson is expanding the list of non-University groups and agencies that might want to attend the event.


Teresa Lynch is planning to update the Committee on the showing of the video "The ADA and Disability Law" to her team. Timing did not allow for a viewing before the January meeting.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 9:30 A.M. in the Swanson Hall Technology Room.
