ADA Meeting - September 28, 2006

 

Members Present: John Baxter, Jeffery Branstetter, Amy Bones, Barb Brock, Roselyn Cerutis, Jim Howell-Burke, Laura Mann, George McNary, Mark Panning, Wade Pearson, Lennis Pederson, Stacy Peitz, John Pierce, Rich Rossi

Minutes: Approval of the August 31, 2006 minutes by Laura Mann and seconded by John Pierce

 

Welcome to: George McNary and Roselyn Cerutis as new faculty members on the Committee.

 

John Baxter encouraged members to find time to work the ADA Committee Booth at the November 8th & 9th Benefits Fair.

 

Wade Pearson did not have an update on the on-line training program provided by Utah State.

 

Jeff Branstetter reviewed the Awareness Brochure. The brochure will be available for handouts at the Symposium. The primary focus is to have the brochure available at the Benefits Fair.

 

The request from Ms. Pat Callone for updates to the Faculty and University Statues was discussed. The section about Americans with Disabilities was enhanced a year ago and the Committee felt that no adjustments were needed. The subject will be addressed at the October meeting.

 

The subject of employee development, ADA awareness training was briefly discussed. The sub-committee working on the project was pleased to announce that Cathy Pedersen will stay involved with the program even though she is no longer a member of the Committee.

 

Mark Panning is in contact with the Athletic Department regarding a Red Dawgs exhibition at basketball games this season. The Red Dawgs are pleased to do this if schedules can be defined. Stacy Peitz informed the group that there will be a SEN sponsored wheel chair exhibition in the Kiewit Fitness Center on November 4th. The last game of the exhibition will be played against a Creighton basketball team that will use wheel chairs.

 

Committee goals edited from the package adopted a few years ago were distributed. The goals and objectives will be addressed at future meetings to formulate a current list.

 

The Committee worked through final details of the October 5th Symposium. Wade was elected to be Master of Ceremonies.

 

John Pierce distributed a draft of a voluntary self-identification and reasonable accommodation request form. The Committee gave John some comments. John anticipates distributing a second draft at the October meeting.
