Spring Symposium

The date/time of the symposium is March 18th, 2009 11:30 am to 1:00 pm or later in the Skutt Student Center. Key presentations about the enhanced ADA law will be by Amy Bones, Jeff Branstetter and Mike Kelley. Video taping will be arranged by Mark Panning. The details for lunch have to be completed.

Grants Program Update

Mark talked about Philanthropy in Omaha and how unique the City is because of the neighborly connections. The discussion was based on a seminar he recently attended designed to help networking with the Philanthropic individuals and corporations in the area. The presenter at the seminar was Patricia McNamara

Mark is finding new grant opportunists in 2009. Jeff Branstetter suggested that there be a report on the types of disabilities disclosed by the campus continuants. The disclosure information may give a focus for grants.

John Pierce informed the group about an on-line training program known as Preventing Employment Discrimination. This is an hour long program that can be found on the Affirmative Action Website. Within the training program is a segment about the ADA. He encourages each member of the ADA Committee take advantage of the training.

Mark Panning will re-send an email about on-line training. The earlier sent message explored an opportunity for web base ADA compliance training.

John Pierce mentioned he has a commitment from Ann Hobbs with the NEOC to speak at Creighton about changes in the ADA law. The date isn't set but John expects that the event will be in April.

Other Discussion

Scheduling conflicts necessitated SEN cancelation of the February 28, 2009 Red Dawgs Exhibition at half time of the Creighton Women's basketball game. SEN plans to look for alternate events for an exhibition.

Rich Rossi and Wade Pearson each reported that there were no new students disclosing as having an ADA covered disability at the start of the new semester.

Meeting adjourned at 11:50 am.

The next scheduled meeting is scheduled for February 2, 2009 at 11:00 am in the Swanson Hall south conference room.
