ADA Committee Meeting - June 30, 2010

Minutes of the May 26, 2010 meeting were approved by Deb Daley and seconded by Mark Panning.

Lennis Pederson distributed a letter sent broadly to colleges and universities to respective presidents from the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Department of Education. The letter raised concern about accessibility for electronic book readers. Lennis will work with the librarians regarding the letter.

The recent tour of the Alumni Library was recapped. Of concern was the lack of signage; the observation that the elevator car was too small to accommodate larger wheel chairs.

Mark Panning further discussed the Pepsi Challenge. This was a conversation started at the may, 2010 meeting. Deb Daley and Mark Panning will delve into this further. They will ask Joy Doll to be part of the study. A report back is expected at the July meeting.

Lennis reiterated that the September meeting would be annual training for all members. Jeff Branstetter and Amy Bones will be presenting.

Jeff Branstetter spoke about complying with on-line job application regulations. He had earlier spoken with John Pierce, who raised the question but could not attend the meeting. The gentlemen agreed that if someone is disabled and in Omaha they can seek help with on-line job applications by coming to the Human Resources office for a staff person assistance. Jeff said phone numbers to the Human Resource office will also be added to the web site with a message instructing applicants with needs to call Human Resources for on-line application assistant if the application is not accessible.

The meeting adjourned at 11:50 am.

The next meeting will be on July 28, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Swanson Hall south conference room.
