ADA Meeting - May 25, 2011

Minutes: Minutes from the April 27, 2011 meeting were approved by Michele Ferestad and seconded by Mark Panning.

The Committee considered two scenarios of the month. One related to accommodation for a computer programmer with diabetes and the second scenario was about a sheet metal work with a speech impairment. Wade led the discussion.

Deb Daley was not available to discuss the Committee briefing book. The members were encouraged to send individual digital photographs of them selves to Deb for inclusion in the book.

Michelle Ferestad presented her study on most favorable times for the committee to meet. It was agreed by all members present that the new meeting time will be 3:00 PM on the 3rd Wednesday of each month. The change will be in effect for the August meeting.

John Pierce volunteered to lead a sub committee that will develop on-line training. The sub committee members helping John are John Baxter, Mark Panning and Michelle Ferestad. The training may be patterned of the Stat of Indiana training program. John will provide monthly updates.

The Committee was asked to support Deb Daley as she might request help with the June 9th presentation to SAC.

Lennis Pederson reported that he did not work on the attendance policy during the last month. Again, all members are encouraged to attend the meetings.

Mark Panning did not have an updated on the status of the Blackboard grant application.

Amy Matthews was not available for the conversation on survey themes. Her findings were posted in the meeting agenda for later discussion.

The meeting adjourned at 11:55 am and many members continued with a tour of Dowling Hall. Discussion of Dowling Hall pointed out the need for more accessibility in restrooms and more compliant signage. The touring party also made note of the sloping floors in the garden level classrooms.

The next meeting will be at 11:00 am on June 22, 2011 in the Law School, room #104. The meeting will be convened by Wade Pearson. Coale Johnson will attend as part of the building tour.
