The Inauguration of Creighton University's 24th President

Timothy R. Lannon, S.J.Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., was inaugurated as Creighton University’s 24th president at a formal ceremony on Friday, Sept. 30 at 4 p.m. in the Kiewit Fitness Center on campus.

More than 1,700 students, faculty, staff, family and friends participated in the ceremony that culminated a week of activities and events celebrating the occasion and acknowledging the role of the University in the community.

The centerpiece of the ceremony was Fr. Lannon’s inaugural address, where he shared his perspective on “The Spirit of Creighton: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow.” He talked about the various manifestations of the Creighton spirit and reminded the audience that he would not be a Jesuit if it were not for the Spirit of Creighton. He also announced the President’s Faculty Research Fund, which will support creation of knowledge in all its form across the entire University.

The Inaugural Ceremony included an academic procession of faculty, staff, students, alumni and distinguished guests. Frederick Hanna, Ph. D., chair of Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair premiered his 'Processus de Facundia (The Procession of the Faculty)' at the inauguration. Among the invited guests were delegates from other colleges and universities; religious leaders; state, local and regional officials; representatives from community organizations; Board of Directors members; key supporters and friends of Creighton; Fr. Lannon’s family and more.

The University captured the special moments and scenes from each event celebrating the inauguration week. Activities included a fine arts exhibit, Tibetan cultural events, a law and a health sciences lecture, the Missioning Mass (view video highlight), the Inaugural Ceremony (view video highlight) and a community service food drive, Feed the Spirit (view video highlight).
