It is with great pleasure that we announce that the Single Stream Recycling program has gone into effect in quite a few buildings across campus.

Single-stream recycling is an easy way to recycle -- simply put all of your recyclable material into one can.  No sorting, no separate bins!

The following is a brief description of the process:

Creighton's Recycling Committee Goal:

To implement a convenient, safe, and cost effective waste management program that integrates both the collection of single stream recycling material and trash.  Student, faculty, and staff feedback is critical to continuously improve and expand our existing program. Recycling is one component of sustainability, so we also strive to provide our community with information regarding sustainable living and reducing our environmental impact.

Individual Responsibilities:
  • Employees will collect single stream items at their desk and walk “trash” to a common receptacle.
  • Students in residence halls have a recycling bin in each room.  They will collect their items in their rooms and walk the recycling to the large bins in central locations in each hall.
University Responsibilities:
  • Replace each desk side trash receptacle with a single stream recycle receptacle.
  • Place a “trash” receptacle in a common spot within each suite/area.
  • Custodians will empty the desk side single stream containers and the centralized trash receptacles on a regular schedule. They will clean the desk side containers as needed since can liners cannot be used in single stream receptacles.
  • Custodians WILL NOT empty any desk side trash receptacles.
  • Custodians will move full recycling bins from the residence halls to a central location for pickup.

Recycle and trash receptacles have been placed in common areas in the buildings.  Please continue to use the single stream recycling process throughout the building.

The single-stream process will be rolling out across campus.

Other recycling

TONER and INKJET CARTRIDGES can be returned for recycling.  If your cartridge comes with a mailback label, please use it.  If there is no label, simply mark it with "RECYCLE" and contact Central Receiving at 280-2397 for pickup.  They will collect the cartridges and send them back to the recycler.
