Water Main Replacement on Cass Street Starts May 21

MUD  will be replacing the water main along Cass Street between 20th and 24th streets beginning the week of May 20th.  The work is expected to take about 5 weeks to complete. At selected times during the work, water to buildings will be turned off so connections can be made. We will keep you informed about the outages as we know of them. MUD is very flexible so we should get at least 48 hours notice of the outages and the outages will be scheduled for times when the buildings are off line.
Some of what can be expected in the construction:

•    Parking on the north side of Cass from the Law Center west will be eliminated during the work.

•    The pipe and other supplies for the job are expected to be stored on Cass Street. MUD will not have a job trailer on site.

•    The entry to the parking and service area between the law school and the Lied Education Center may be closed for a short time during the project. That is not expected to last more than one day.

•    The pipe at Cass and 21st Street will be cut and capped. New pipe will be installed from there to about the entrance of the Visitor’s Parking Lot. It is expected that parking in the law school/20th Street parking garage will be available at all times, however there may be a lane closure on the former 21st Street

•    Most of the work will be in the lawn or under the sidewalk on the north side of Cass. MUD will direct bore the pipe rather than use an open trench when they can so tree damage can be kept to a minimum.

•    The water supply  to McGloin and to Brandies should not be interrupted

•    A phase of the work includes cutting and capping existing water mains at the southeast corner of Brandies. The excavation will be in the hardscape near 24th Street. The Brandies dock will be kept open during the work.
