Most items are mailable to foreign countries. However, there are certain restrictions. It is important that mailers contact Mail Services at 280.3002 to determine the proper classification and customs documentation required for mail whose destination is outside the United States.
- Foreign customs rules apply to all mail, whether mail is sent by USPS or other couriers. If customs regulations are not followed and documentation is not exact, the item to be mailed may be impounded by customs officials. If this happens, the addressee must then make arrangements for clearance and the payment of required duties before the item will be released for delivery.
Tips for International Mail:
- For letter-size items, use the special Tyvek red/blue border envelopes. They will enhance service and help Mail Services separate them from domestic mail.
- The last line of any foreign address should be the country's name, spelled out in capital letters, IN ENGLISH.
