Certified mail provides the sender with a mailing receipt and, upon request, electronic verification that an article was delivered or that a delivery attempt was made. Customers can retrieve the delivery status in three ways: (1) over the internet at www.usps.com by entering the article number shown on the mailing receipt; (2) by telephone at 1-800-222-1811; or (3) by bulk electronic file transfer for mailers who prove an electronic manifest to the USPS. No insurance coverage is provided. USPS maintains a record of delivery (which includes the recipientís signature) for a specific period of time. (A return receipt provides you with proof that mail has been delivered, and is available for an additional fee. See reference chart.) Certified mail service is available only for first-class and priority mail. Certified Mail may be addressed for delivery only in the US and its territories and possessions, through APO and FPOs.
