Admission Requirements - International Undergraduates

No matter which corner of the globe you come from, Creighton University welcomes applications from international students.  We greatly value the perspective, experience, and diversity that you bring with you to campus.  Admission to Creighton is competitive, and students should apply at least 6 months before they plan to enroll at the University.

A complete international undergraduate application consists of 6 steps.  All application materials should be mailed to:

STEP ONE

Fill out and submit the Common Application and supplement.

STEP TWO

Request a school counselor fill out and submit the Counselor evaluation form.

STEP THREE

Request one written recommendation from a teacher who can attest to your academic ability.  (This letter may be written in the teacher's native tongue, but must be officially translated.  Please submit both copies of the letter.)

STEP FOUR

Submit at least one of the following test scores directly from your school or the testing agency

  • TOEFL -- must present 80 or higher on TOEFL iBT
  • IELTS -- must present 6.5 or higher, with no section lower than a 6.0
  • SAT -- writing portion not evaluated
  • ACT -- writing portion not evaluated

Note: Students who have taken at least 3 continuous years of high school curriculum in English do not need to submit test scores.  However, the SAT or ACT is highly recommended, especially for scholarship consideration.

STEP FIVE

Request your high school transcripts be sent to Creighton University.  (Official certified English translations are required if in a language other than English.)
For transfers: Request all college transcripts be submitted directly to Creighton University.

STEP SIX

Submit any external examination results, diplomas, or certificates that may mark the completion of secondary school and adequate qualification for university in your home country.  Examples of such tests include:

  • A-levels
  • Cambridge International Examinations
  • International Baccalaureate (IB) Examinations
  • Abitur
  • Le baccalauréat
  • Bachillerato

Note: Students in dual diploma programs (ie, the Spanish national curriculum and the IB diploma) need only submit results of one of these examinations.

International students are admitted on the basis of their academic record, examination scores, recommendation letters, a personal statement, and an evaluation of extracurricular involvement.

Cambridge International Examinations
International O-levels and IGCSE may be recognized for matriculation purposes in some countries.  Passes in 5 subjects with at least grade -C- are required for admission consideration.

A pass of at least grade -C- in O-level English satisfies the English language proficiency requirement for university entrance.  Students who achieve this score do not need to present a TOEFL or IELTS score.

International A-levels are recognized for matriculation purposes.  For more information on university credit for A-levels, please refer to our Cambridge A-levels policy.

International Baccalaureate
Those who sit for IB examinations may be awarded university credit for outstanding achievement.  For Creighton University's policy on IB credit, please visit our Advanced Placement webpage.

Standardized Testing

Creighton accepts the highest composite score on the ACT or SAT I. Creighton does not require or review the written portion of either test in its admission process.

When you register to take these tests, be sure to have your official score sent directly to Creighton (ACT code number: 2444, SAT code number: 6121). Test early and often to score as high as possible.

Transfer Students/Students Applying for Re-admission

You can apply as a transfer student if you are in good academic standing at another accredited university, college or junior college. Both your college-level work and high school academic record are considered for admission. An overall college GPA of 2.75 (4.0 scale) or higher is recommended for acceptance.

Former Creighton students who reapply do not need to send duplicates of previously submitted records and fees. Students who have attended another university since leaving Creighton must have their official transcripts from those institutions sent to Creighton.
