Chick-fil-A "Aesop's Sticker Fun"

2009 Aesop's Sticker Fun: The Farmer, His Daughter, and Their Donkey. Retold by Mary Weber. Illustrated by Steve Haefele. Paperbound. Naples, FL: Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal Aesop's Sticker Fun 1: Frederic Thomas. Gift of Barbara J. Hooper of Frederic Thomas and Cheryl Haire of Chick-fil-A, May, '10.

I am delighted to have been given the whole set of five Aesop's Sticker Fun booklets through the kindness of Barbara Hooper of Frederic Thomas and Cheryl Haire of Chick-fil-A. Each of the ten illustrations in this sixteen-page stapled pamphlet has a white section where a reader inserts one of the stickers into the picture. This version of MSA is unusual for having a daughter. Tucker and Emma are taking Boots, laden with vegetables, to market. The various episodes here are occasioned by three neighbors riding donkeys; grand ladies in a coach; acrobats; and a nobleman! What a collection! Emma contributes to the problem by loitering and picking flowers. Boots finally runs away with the vegetables. "You can't succeed if you're always worrying about what other people think." Only after writing this comment did I realize that this book takes something done earlier by Chick-fil-A and presents it now in sticker form.

2009 Aesop's Sticker Fun: The Woodsman and the Amazing Fish. Retold by Mary Weber. Illustrated by Jim Durk. Paperbound. Naples, FL: Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal Aesop's Sticker Fun 2: Frederic Thomas. $2.99 from Richard Ramirez, San Juan, TX, through eBay, April, '10. Extra clean copy, a gift of Barbara J. Hooper of Frederic Thomas and Cheryl Haire of Chick-fil-A.

This seems to be a new series of give-away books from Chick-fil-A. I need to contact the publisher to see if I can get the full set of five. Each illustration in this sixteen-page stapled pamphlet has a white section where a reader inserts one of the stickers into the picture. In fact, a previous reader has taken out the sticker of a cow with a poster reading "Eat Chikin or Weer Sunk" and pasted it on the inside back-cover. The story is unusual in that not a god or a river spirit but rather a fish named Carla supplies the golden and silver axes. The art is colorful. Now I have a clean copy, given me along with the rest of the set through the generosity of Barbara J. Hooper of Frederic Thomas and Cheryl Haire of Chick-fil-A.  I will keep it in the collection.

2009 Aesop's Sticker Fun: The Crow and the Pitcher. Retold by Mary Weber. Illustrated by Paul Lopez. Paperbound. Naples, FL: Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal Aesop's Sticker Fun 3: Frederic Thomas.

The other animals look up to Kendra the Crow for her wisdom and cleverness. She creates, for example, a pulley to bring water up to her nest. Forest animal friends give Kendra several ideas, like breaking off the top of the pitcher, tipping the pitcher, and using a quill as a straw. After solving the problem of the water-pitcher, Kendra installs a plastic bag as a rain-canopy over her nest. Her bliss there during a rainstorm (15) may be one of the best illustrations. This Sticker Fun booklet uses the art from a previous Chick-fil-A series.

2009 Aesop's Sticker Fun: The Country Mouse and the City Mouse. Retold by Mary Weber. Illustrated by Fred Marvin. Paperbound. Naples, FL: Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal Aesop's Sticker Fun 4: Frederic Thomas.

Cooper lives a quiet life in a country home; his cousin Cindy invites him through a carrier pigeon. They meet at the farmers' market and soon are watching a parade. They get a ride on a floating balloon and go to the kiddy matinee at the movies. At the theater, Cooper gets stuck in some bubble-gum! Cindy's home happens to be featuring a birthday party on this very day. One attack from the ugly city cat has Cooper scampering home, where he finds his friend the dog waiting for him. The moral here is "Life isn't perfect, no matter where you live" (15). This Sticker Fun booklet uses the art from a previous Chick-fil-A series.

2009 Aesop's Sticker Fun: The Donkey and the Dog. Retold by Mary Weber. Illustrated by Isidre Mones. Paperbound. Naples, FL: Chick-fil-A Kid's Meal Aesop's Sticker Fun 5: Frederic Thomas. Gift of Barbara J. Hooper of Frederic Thomas and Cheryl Haire of Chick-fil-A, May, '10.

Each of the ten illustrations in this sixteen-page stapled pamphlet has a white section where a reader inserts one of the stickers into the picture. Lizzy is not happy being a donkey; she envies Lucky the dog. After a day of thinking it over, she begins trying on the dog's life. She even gets into the house and tries to jump on Sam's lap. She has already been shooed out of Rita's kitchen. Sam is wise enough to give her a carrot, walk her to her stall, and tell her "You're a great donkey, Lizzy, but you are a very silly dog." "From now on," she resolves, "I am going to be happy to be me, because I'm special in my own way." This seems to be the only book in this Sticker Fun series that does not replicate one I have from the "Between the Lions" series of 2005, also done by Chick-fil-A. I suspect that they produced such a booklet, and I did not find it.
