The Rare Books Room is open once again for viewing and conducting research.   We took a couple weeks to change how we organize and protect a portion of our rare books collection.  Please stop by to see the results of the excellent work done by students Cat Pedigo, Lexie Kafka, Annie McCleary and Sydney Moore.

SUMMER 2016

So that we can serve you better - and frankly so we can perform some basic functions - the University Archives, Rare Books and Special Collections will be shifting some of our collections this summer.  We will try to keep the inconvenience to a minimum, but it is the case that we may be slower responding to requests.  In addition, viewing hours in the Rare Books Room will be reduced, and there will be some weeks over the summer when the room will be closed.  We will try to keep updated hours posted on our website.  Thank you for your understanding.

Hours

The Rare Books Room serves as the research area for the University Archives, Rare Books and Special Collections department.  The Rare Books Room implements open hours in two categories: research hours and viewing hours.

Research hours are intended to promote access to and use of archival, rare books and special collections.  Persons who wish to access items from these collections must either attend during scheduled research hours or make an appointment with the University Archivist.  Please be advised that archival and special collections will not be available to researchers unless permission for access has already been granted by the University Archivist.

Viewing hours will allow patrons to view exhibits, including the Heritage Edition of The Saint John's Bible currently on loan to Creighton University.  The room will not be available for research during viewing hours.

Please note that scheduled research hours and viewing hours are currently intermittent, changing weekly while we address staffing and other needs, but will stabilize in the near future.  Current hours appear in the left column on this webpage.

Please contact the University Archivist, David E. Crawford, by email or telephone (402.280.2216) to schedule an appointment.
