Creighton University

“My entire Creighton experience has been like being part of one big family.”

Student-Athlete Doug McDermott’s Record-Breaking Year

At Creighton, we develop the whole person. We encourage our students to do something big. That’s why we’re thrilled that senior Doug McDermott has won numerous national awards this year that acknowledge both his athleticism and his character.

Doug was named National Player of the Year by 13 different groups, including the USBWA (Oscar Robertson Trophy), John R. Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Associated Press, NABC and others. If that’s not impressive enough, for the third straight year, McDermott has been named a First Team All-American by the Associated Press and has been named to the John R. Wooden All-American Team.

In addition, Doug won the Senior CLASS Award®, which recognizes NCAA Division 1 student-athletes who excel both on and off the court. Doug does just that—with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better and nearly 100 hours of community service since coming to Creighton.

Student awards, like these, and national recognition of the University, let us know that we’re doing something right. As we pursue academic excellence and innovation, we never lose sight of educating the entire student—mind, body and spirit.
