What is the Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program?
This new program is a joint venture between the Creighton College of Business, School of Health Sciences, Law School, and the Office of Technology Transfer, funded by the National Science Foundation's Partnerships for Innovation Program. It consists of a twelve month course of study, including a spring seminar on Bioscience Technology Commercialization, a fall seminar on Bioscience Entrepreneurship, and a summer internship at a local law firm, bioscience business or technology transfer office. Students will work in interdisciplinary teams to research and put together plans for commercializing university research-based technologies.
Why Was This Program Created?
The program was undertaken to train business, law, and health sciences students across disciplines to understand and gain practice in technology commercialization which results in wealth creation from university research through technology licensing and startups.
Who Can Apply?
Undergraduate juniors and graduate students in Creighton's schools of law, health sciences, and business who are interested in this field are eligible to apply. Applications for the second class are due September 30, 2008. What Scholarships Are Available?
Up to twelve $5,000 grants in scholarships and tuition remissions are available for students who complete the entire course sequence. These grants will be awarded competitively.

What is Dr. Anne York's background?
Anne S. York is Associate Professor of strategy and entrepreneurship and the Director of Entrepreneurship Programs at Creighton University. She is also the Principal Investigator on a National Science Foundation Partners for Innovation grant that has enabled the establishment of the Creighton Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program, which trains students from law, the natural sciences, medicine and business about the bioscience technology commercialization process. Professor York is the past chair and program chair for the Technology Division of USASBE and a member of the Entrepreneurship Center Liaison Committee for the Academy of Management. She has published articles in and reviewed for journals such as Organization Science, Strategic Management Journal, Long Range Planning, and the Academy of Management Journal. She has co-authored a book titled Managing in Times of Disorder which was published by Sage. Her research involves strategies for managing change and improving firm performance. More recently, her research has focused on the technology commercialization process in bioscience. She received her PhD from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill, following degrees from Northwestern and the University of Alabama. Before joining the Creighton faculty she was a professor at UNC- Chapel Hill and the University of Washington.
