Inflation
Updated June 5, 2006. Consumer Prices--As a result of higher energy prices in the pipeline, I expect the inflation rate, as measured by the consumer price index, to advance at a faster pace in the months ahead. Growth in the core CPI, which strips out food and energy, will also advance move quickly. However, slower growth in housing will held moderate price growth in the second half of 2006. I expect the overall CPI to grow by above 3.5% in the second half of 2007.. Over this same time period, the core rate will grow by approximately the same rate. All these rates are year-over-year or annualized rate changes.
