Jonathan M. Sanchez joined Creighton as a Teaching Assistant Professor in 2026 after teaching at Notre Dame and Saint Mary’s College. He holds a PhD in Christianity and Judaism in Antiquity from Notre Dame, a STM from Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary, a MDiv from Yale Divinity School where he was also part of the Institute of Sacred Music, and a BM in music performance from St. Olaf College.
Dr. Sanchez enjoys teaching on the New Testament and is especially fascinated by various aspects of community formation and maintenance in ancient Judaism and Christianity. He is currently working on a monograph that examines the intersection of discipline and soteriology in the Damascus Document and the Gospel of Matthew. In his Church-facing work, Dr. Sanchez challenges Christian anti-Judaism and reflects on how historical study of the Bible can benefit the Church. He also occasionally preaches and leads worship as a lay person. Outside of work, he enjoys puns, playing and listening to music, going on runs, cooking, and baking pies.
