Eligibility

Welcome! Today is November 22, 2009.
The Intramural Sports program is open to all Creighton University students, faculty, staff, and Kiewit Fitness Center members according to the guidelines listed below. The basic purpose of the eligibility rules is to provide an equitable program for all participants. The rules have been drawn as a guide to enjoyable participation. Therefore, the "spirit of the rules" is extremely important, and if each participant is willing to abide by the rules, the net result will be a better intramural sports program for all.

The Intramural Department does not investigate eligibility unless notified. It is the responsibility of the Captains and the participants to notify the IM Sports Department of any violations of the eligibility requirements.

OTHER ELIGIBILITY RULES
  1. Purchasing guest passes or punch cards are not valid to play Intramural Sports.
  2. Kiewit Fitness Center Members must have a valid membership that swipes valid throughout the entire Intramural Sport season.
  3. All participants in the Intramural program must be of college age (19 and/or graduated from High School)
  4. Current varsity athletes (Beginning in the fall semester of the academic year, any student whose names appear on a team roster or eligibility list of an intercollegiate athletic team at Creighton University or is a transfer from another college or University) cannot participate in the same sport or a related sport in the intramural program during the same academic year of competition. Intercollegiate athletes who have been red shirted, are Proposition 48, quit the team, or who have become academically ineligible are considered current varsity athletes. Former varsity athletes (NCAA or NAIA) must play in the most competitive league available (ELITE/A) in the same sport or a related sport to the sport in which they were a varsity athlete beginning the academic year following their final year of competition.
  5. Professional athletes cannot participate in the same sport or a related sport in the intramural program.
  6. A player competing under an assumed name will be barred from intramural competition for the academic year.
  7. Any player playing for more than one team in the same sport will render that player ineligible for both teams and put both teams in jeopardy of a forfeit or declared ineligible/dropped from the play-offs. In a sport where there is a Co-Rec league, players may play on one Co-Rec team and one Men’s or Women’s team. A Female may play on a Men’s Team or a Women’s Team but not both.
  8. Before each game, every team member will check in with the IM supervisor to verify their roster.   Every player that is participating must bring their ID to every game.   Team Captains must verify their roster following the third game played by their team. Games 1-3: Members may be added to a team's roster, providing the player is otherwise eligible. The players name and net ID need to be added to the game score sheet. Since play-off games are schedule on nights which are different from the team regular season night and time, it would be highly recommended to each team captain to carry additional players on their roster to avoid possible conflicts with classes, events, etc.  No players may be added to the team once the roster has been verified by the Team Captain
  9. A play-off game in which a protest concerning player eligibility is upheld will result in a forfeit for the team using an ineligible participant.   Any player who is found to be ineligible under these eligibility rules will be barred from further IM play for the season.
  10. Players may transfer from one team to another once during a sport season with permission from both team managers involved. Players may not transfer teams once either their current or future team has played their third regular season game. If a participant plays for a team, s/he is considered a member of that team. For example, after playing for Team A, a participant plays in a game for Team B. The participant is now considered a member of Team B, and s/he has used up the allowable one transfer.   If the player request to return to Team A, they will have to sit out the number of games the player played with Team B.
  11. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.  First and foremost every individual that participates or is a spectator is responsible for their own behavior.  Every intramural participant is expected to behave in a manner that respects and promotes the dignity of all persons.  Any conduct that is demeaning or harmful to another person will result in player ejections and possible team forfeits or declared ineligible/dropped from the play-offs.   Game officials/IM supervisors are empowered to end games if any individual player, spectator, and coach safety is in question.  Teams will be penalized for unsportsmanlike acts committed by their players, bench personnel, and/or fans.   Any team that commits multiple unsportsmanlike conduct infractions during the season/play-offs will be dropped from the program.  An ejected player will sit out a minimum of one game and must meet with the Associate Director or his designee before he/she is eligible for further competition.
  12. Any team may request to move up into the play-offs For example, Team G which registers in a B league may declare to participate in the A league playoffs from the time of registration to the end of  their regular season.  Once the play-offs are posted, teams will play as scheduled. Teams may not move down in the play-offs. For example, Team Q in the A league may not move down to B league play-offs. The Associate Director reserves the right to move teams up in the playoffs, if they play in a league below their skill level (Sandbagging rule).
