Participation in the Institute

The institute is limited to approximately 150 participants who will join with and learn from 28 scholars, 7 former-Carnegie Scholars who serve as institute mentors, and 3 keynote speakers; together we create a community of learners dedicated to the development of student learning, teaching, and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning.

This developmental summer institute is specifically designed to offer faculty, university administrators/staff, and graduate students a variety of opportunities to develop your SoTL learning and abilities and to further promote SoTL work at your various home institutions.  Developmental opportunities include:

  • A pre-institute workshop and leadership forum (June 2), designed for administrative teams and those ‘new’ to SoTL, where the morning is devoted to more fully understanding the nature and practices of SoTL and the afternoon allows for institutional administrative teams (or individuals) to strategically plan how to advance, promote, and reward SoTL on your campuses.
  • Three days of workshops, which range from an Introductory SoTL track through an Advanced SoTL track to Specialized workshops on the institute theme and current issues in SoTL.
  • Scholars’ presentations of “works-in-progress,”  [Please review the Scholars’ Call for Proposals if interested in submitting your work for competitive review.]
