Dean Lueger Welcomes You to the College of Arts & Sciences

Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the Creighton College of Arts and Sciences web site. As you follow the links and scan the pages associated with “our space,” you will find that the College has 22 academic departments, 38 majors at the undergraduate level, and graduate programs in 10 areas. The undergraduate programs offer excellent preparation for graduate and professional programs, help students develop skills for leadership roles, and foster a deeper commitment to one’s community. The many academic programs provide opportunities for over 2600 students to explore their interests, to discover their passion, and to fall in love with learning and discovery. Teaching, learning, and discovery are supported by 60-plus dedicated support staff, and over 200 faculty members who are actively involved in teaching and scholarship. Faculty members conduct nationally and internationally recognized cutting-edge research that they bring, in turn, to individualized learning opportunities in which students pursue their own research or creative productions and present their work before professional audiences. The College sponsors intensive global learning experiences such as the service learning oriented, semester-length Encuentro Dominicano. Faculty members lead study-abroad programs to China, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, France, India, Ireland, Italy, and Mexico among other places. All of these learning opportunities are guided by the Jesuit tradition of educating the whole person and a core curriculum that is intended to develop critical thinking skills and to deepen our appreciation of the human experience. Most importantly, many students, staff and faculty members model the Jesuit ideal of  “intellect in action in the service of faith,” and provide an inspirational example of how to lead a “life examined.”

The College truly is a vibrant, stimulating, creative, and supportive community of teaching and learning. I hope that you will capture a sense of this excitement as you navigate and explore these sites.

Sincerely,

Robert J. Lueger, Ph.D.
Dean, Creighton College of Arts and Sciences
