Formerly known as "Non-Western Culture Week"
The public is invited to join the Creighton University Asian World Center’s 6th Annual Asian Culture Week April 18 through April 23, 2010. This year’s environment-centered theme is “Asia the Colorful: Striving for Greener.” The week includes a series of events including lectures, roundtable discussions, art shows, live demonstrations, a documentary screening and two concerts. This year, a delegation from the prestigious Nanjing Arts Institute in China, headed by its Vice President, is invited to join the celebration of the culture event.
Since 2005, Creighton students have experienced a major week-long series of events each year with a focus on Asia from politics, economy and society to culture, tradition and identity. The themes of the past five annual events have reflected our educational mission and served to enrich our global awareness.
To continue the success of its past Asian Culture Weeks, the sixth Asian Culture Week intends to share, on one hand, the Asian concerns over environment-related crises, and, on the other, the Asian attitude towards procuring a green earth through its colorful efforts. This week-long event inspires various means as to create and maintain a healthy, sustainable environment as well as to channel these efforts into building a cleaner, healthier, and more diverse world for generations to come.

Joint Exhibition/Concert Reception with Special Live Demonstrations:
Joint Painting: During the reception, Creighton Art Professor John Thein and Chinese artist Dr. He Xiaoyou, Vice President of China’s prestigious Nanjing Arts Institute, will create a unique Western/Eastern style oil painting together on-the-spot.
Japanese Sushi-Making: Sushi Master Mr. Ming Ip of Fuji Food Products, Inc. will also be on site to show you how to make your own sushi and will have several varieties of sushi available for tasting.
Springtime Asian Tea: In addition to the sushi, and to celebrate spring time, over 35 unique types and blends of Asian tea will also be available.
