2008-2009 Faculty Lecture Series

The AWC Faculty Lecture Series takes place during the Fall and Spring semesters. This series aims to provide a forum for Creighton faculty to present lectures about their current academic research interests and accomplishments. The Faculty Lecture Series is organized by the Asian Word Center with support from various departments and research institutions at Creighton.

2009-2010 Faculty Lecture Series

Topic:  “Conducting in China: A Music Journey with Fred Hanna"

Speaker:  Dr. Fred Hanna (Chair of the Fine and Performing Arts Department)

In this lecture, Dr. Hanna, Chair of the FPA, shares his experiences from China at the Nanjing Art Institute (NAI) in May 2009 where he lectured and worked with NAI faculty and students to organize and conduct a concert.  His lectures and concert in Nanjing were warmly received and highly praised.

 

About Dr. Hanna

Frederick Hanna is the Fine and Performing Arts Department Chair at Creighton University where he conducts the Creighton University Wind Ensemble and University Symphony Orchestra.

Dr. Hanna holds degrees from the University of Arkansas, Northwestern University and the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. 

Dr. Hanna has composed the musical score to Lewis & Clark Part One: Manifest Destiny, a musical theater production which was produced at Creighton University as well as Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.  He has also composed the musical score to 'King of Kings' for the Robert M. Gewald Management in New York City.

With several wind ensemble compositions to his credit, Dr. Hanna composed the 'Suite for Symphonic Band' which includes 'Fantasy on the Blue and the Gold', 'Scherzo', and 'Soundtrack'.  Dr. Hanna recently conducted a concert, including the Suite, at the Nanjing Arts Institute in Nanjing, China.

He is married to his wife, Laurie and has four children, Kristin, Kevin, Megan and Brian.
