Sandra Leighton

Sandra is the designer and instructor of Nebraska’s first lecture/lab hybrid course in forensic chemistry (CHM392). This course investigates forensic biochemistry concepts and methods, focusing on processing techniques for biological, chemical, and other evidentiary items found at crime scenes, with analysis by FTIR, GCMS, Bioanalyzer, and other instrumentation.

Sandra also manages the department stockroom where she oversees work-study students in solution preparation, equipment maintenance and laboratory experimental set up. She is HAZWOPER- and RCRA-certified and serves on the University Safety Committee, the Laboratory Safety Committee, the Benefits Committee and the Shared Services Initiative.
