Dr. Katie Hatfield (BAA and MA, Central Michigan University & Ph.D., Ohio University). Katie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Communication Studies. She formerly was the Director of Individual Events at Creighton, but has since decided to refocus her attention on her teaching and scholarship. She joined the faculty of Creighton in the Fall of 2005.
She specializes in areas of rhetoric and public culture, visual and political communication, and argumentation and public address. As a critical scholar, she is interested in the communicative nature of the visual. Her research has involved topics as varied as AIDS, Terrorism, Iconicity, Public Service Campaigns, and Health. Katie has published in outlets such as Argumentation and Advocacy and The Atlantic Journal of Communication.
Katie is also the faculty moderator of the Creighton Oratorical Society. COS is a student organization that uses their voice on campus as a way to promote justice and service to the community.
