Erika L. Kirby, Ph.D. (University of Nebraska-Lincoln, 2000) is Chair and Professor of Communication Studies and the Director of Women’s and Gender Studies at Creighton University where she has been for ten years. Her teaching/research interests include organizational, applied and working/personal life communication as well as their intersections with gender. Courses she has taught include Organizational Communication, Advanced Organizational Communication, Organizational Assessment, Research Methods, Internships, Human Resources, Managerial Communication, Gender Communication and Communication and Community. She has trained and consulted for multiple constituencies within Creighton University as well as in organizations such as ConAgra, Woodmen of the World and Omaha State Bank. She is the Vice-President of the Organization for the Study of Communication, Language, and Gender (OSCLG) and the Vice-Chair of the Applied Communication Division of the National Communication Association. She has published articles in outlets such as Communication Monographs, the Journal of Business Communication, the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Management Communication Quarterly and Communication Yearbook. She is on the editorial boards of the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Communication Studies and Communication Teacher.
