Program Description:
The Creighton in China (CIC) summer program is an FLPA (Faculty-Led Program Abroad) program which gives students the opportunity to take part in an immersive three-week academic and cultural trip across China. It is a joint-program with students from St. Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) and takes Creighton and Saint Mary’s students to several Chinese cities (big and small, ancient and modern) across China. CIC is an immersive travel experience and as such mainly involves travel, interaction with Chinese students/universities and various other activities to give students the true taste of China. Ten to twelve Creighton students will be chosen to take part in this program. Led by two Creighton faculty members, the trip will include a three-credit course on Buddhist philosophy and art. Although there is no language requirement or prerequisite, all students will undoubtably pick up a lot of Chinese along the way. CIC also offers students the distinct opportunity to do service at an orphanage and teach in Chinese universities. Students who have been on the trip in the past have made many friends, experienced China in many ways (from its delicious, authentic food to its historical sites and language) and have made memories that will last a lifetime.
This trip is also a collaboration with St. Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN, so Creighton students will also travel with Dr. Alice Yang (St. Mary’s professor) and students of her Women’s Studies class. Dr. Yang will bring eight to ten St. Mary’s College students to join our group.
