Biography

Bill Van Deest is the Resident Lighting and Scenic Designer for the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Creighton University. He received his MA from the University of South Dakota, and he has designed sets and/or lights for over 100 productions at CU. He is active in the Omaha theatre and dance community and  has received multiple Theatre Arts Guild (TAG)  and Omaha Entertainment Awards (OEA), including: TAG Award for Scenic Design for Night of the Iguana at the Blue Barn Theatre in 2002 and in 2013 for Clybourne Park at the SNAP/Shelterbelt; TAG and OEA for Scenic Design for I Am My Own Wife at the Shelterbelt Theatre in 2007 and in 2008 for the Blue Barn Theatre's production of Seascape; the OEA for Lighting Design for the Omaha Community Playhouse production of The Crucible; and the OEA for Scenic Design in 2010 for Creighton University's production of Les Liaisons Dangereuses.

Bill received the Theatre Educator Award from TAG for 2004-2005 and in 2012 was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award for his service to the Omaha theater community by the Great Plains Theater Festival. Bill was awarded the Norm and Louise Filbert Lifetime Achievement Award by TAG in 2014.
