Josh Potter

Joshua Potter (B.A. 2008) is currently pursuing a PhD in Comparative Politics from Washington University in St. Louis.

Graduating with a major in political science and a minor in economics, Joshua coauthored Applying Fuzzy Mathematics to Formal Models in Comparative Politics with several members of the Center for Research in Fuzzy Mathematics. His other research interests included organizational ecology (where he co-authored with Dr. Sue E.S. Crawford) and civil-military relations in Northern Ireland and the Gaza Strip (with Mr. Jason Steck).

Joshua undertook a two-year study of nearly 250 Omaha nonprofits and was asked to present his findings to the Office of the Mayor and the Midwest Political Science Association. Working with Dr. Sue E.S. Crawford, he published an article in State and Local Government Review that explores nonprofit migration in an organizational ecological framework.

With Dr. Terry Clark, Joshua has coauthored several working papers and a book on the intersection between fuzzy set theory and formal models in comparative political systems. He was asked to present his senior honors thesis on fuzzy sets at multiple conferences and on-campus research days. Together with Alan Hickle, he has guest lectured on spatial modeling, game theory, and fuzzy set theoretical applications in the social sciences.
