The Thomas A. Grennan Award

The Grennan Award is presented annually by the Department of History through the generosity of Thomas A. Grennan to the outstanding student in each section of the previous year's Core-level surveys of African, Asian, Latin American, or Middle Eastern history.

The Lindell D. Hill Award

The Hill Award is presented annually by the Department of History through the generosity of Mrs. Rose Hill, Assistant Dean in College of Arts & Sciences, and Mr. Bill Barnes. The award is given to the student whose love of History transcends the walls of the Academy.

The Dr. Ross C. Horning Endowed Scholarship

This $1,000 scholarship, honoring Dr. Ross C. Horning, Professor of History, is awarded by the Financial Aid Office in conjunction with the Department of History, to a junior who has been admitted as a History major. The student must also demonstrate a background of work experience and the need for financial aid. By maintaining a 2.5 grade average during the junior year, the scholarship may be renewed for the senior year.

The Jefferson-Mullen Essay Prize

  • Through the generosity of the late Arthur F. Mullen, Sr., of Omaha, an annual award is given in recognition of the best essay submitted on the life or works of Thomas Jefferson. Students from any division of the University are eligible for the competition. For details, contact the Department of History.

The Fr. Alfred Kaufmann, S.J. Award

  • The Fr. Alfred Kaufmann, S.J. award is designed to honor Fr. Kaufmann, an instructor of European History for over 20 years at Creighton University. The award is presented to an undergraduate student enrolled in an upper division history class for an outstanding paper in European history. The Kaufmann award is designed to promote excellent writing as well as to encourage the study of European history. Eligible students may submit research papers that originated in upper division history courses. Papers can be on any aspect of European history.

The Warren G. Kneer Award

The Department Service Award is presented to the student who best exemplifies Warren Kneer's service to the Department of History. The award consists of a plaque in the Department's Allan M. Schleich Room, on which the student's name will be inscribed, and another plaque, which will be given to the student upon the presentation of the award.

The Eileen B. Lieben Award

An annual cash award and a plaque is given by the Department of History to an outstanding female history major.

The Joseph Robbie Prizes

  • The Robbie Prize is given by the Department of History through the generosity of the late Joseph Robbie to the outstanding first year student in each section of the required introductory history course.

The Allan M. Schleich Award

Given annually to a student of history, who, in addition to academic excellence, best reflects the exemplary qualities of Dr. Allan M. Schleich, Chairman of the Department of History from 1963 to 1981. The award includes a cash award, a plaque, and the permanent inclusion of the recipient's name on the Schleich Plaque in the Allan M. Schleich Room.
