Award-winning Journalist Eric Schlosser to Deliver Ross Horning Lecture

Investigative journalist Eric Schlosser, the New York Times Bestselling author of ?Fast Food Nation? and ?Reefer Madness,? is the keynote speaker for the Creighton University Department of History Ross Horning Lecture at 7:30 p.m. April 2nd, in the Harper Center Hixson Lied Auditorium.

Schlosser will discuss his new book, ?Command and Control,? the dramatic and sometimes terrifying story of the efforts of the military to maintain the safety and security of the US nuclear arsenal.

There will be an opportunity to meet Mr. Schlosser at a book signing immediately following the lecture. Copies of his books will be available for purchase.

?Fast Food Nation? started a revolution in how Americans think about food and the food industry. ?Reefer Madness? uncovered America?s thriving black market economy of drugs, pornography and cheap labor. His articles have appeared in The New York Times, The Nation, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, and Vanity Fair.

Known for an exhaustive investigative style that reads like fiction, Schlosser has an extensive reporting background that has taken him through the margins of society to tell the stories of those he encounters. Schlosser has followed the harvest with California migrant workers, spent time with meatpackers in Texas and Colorado and the New York Police Department Bomb Squad, and visited prisons throughout the United States.

The lecture is named for Ross Horning, a professor of history at Creighton University from 1964 until his death in 2005. The lecture is meant to reflect the many dimensions of his life including his love for history, the arts, and the community.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Doors open at 7:00 PM. Please register at cuhistory.eventbrite.com.
