HIS 395C: Selected Topics in History: Victorian England

This course will explore the cultural and social history of Victorian Britain through primary sources and current scholarship. Major themes will include gender, class, ethnicity, social reform, citizenship, urbanization, health and the body, art and architecture, imperialism, and the ever-elusive concept of "Victorianism." At home and abroad, the Victorians fashioned a new vision of the world that is still with us in subtle and profound ways.
