Career Information

The History Department offers structured advising in career planning. Obviously, a limited number of jobs specifically demand an undergraduate major in history. Direct history-related careers include teaching, historical administration (museums, libraries, historical societies) and government service.

Generally, however, the skills obtained by majoring in history - research, writing, analysis, communication - serve the liberal arts major well in terms of entry into all graduate and professional schools, including law, MBA, and the various health sciences, including medicine. Moreover, history majors have opportunities for employment in communications, publishing, journalism, public administration, management, marketing, office administration, retail services, and the travel industry.
