March 3, 2009. Presentations to International Financial Management class students at Creighton University
Russian Club had the opportunity to participate in presentation sessions given by corporate and state representatives on international development. This event was organized by Steve Kuhl, Director of Global Banking at First National Bank. Steve teaches International Financial Management class at Creighton University. Joe Chapuran, International Development Manager at the Nebraska Department of Economic Development discussed the initiatives led by his department in the area of fostering trade and investment between Nebraska and other countries and shared many of the success stories achieved by his department. Nilufar Rakhimova, Director of Interest Rate Risk Management at First National of Nebraska Inc. spoke on international business opportunities and challenges in Russia and Central Asia. She reviewed regional profiles and the work that the countries have done to promote foreign investment opportunities in their countries. She also made a connection to the Russian Program at Creighton and opportunities available to students in the Russian language program. Doug Roemmich from Gallup's Global Treasury gave an overview of Gallup and its involvement in the world markets. Doug emphasized the importance of treasury management systems, the ability to understand international financial statements, hedging currency risks, and the ability to work with different country laws and regulations to multinational corporations. The Russian Club was represented by Dr. Munavvar Dadajanova, the Russian Club moderator and the Club's Vice President of Marketing, Mike Gibilisco.

January 23, 2009
On January 23, 2009, the Russian Club has invited a speaker, Colin T. Flanagan to share his experiences related to Russian language and culture with the class. Colin is originally from Omaha, NE. He graduated from Creighton Prep High School and received his undergraduate degree in Finance from Santa Clara University in California. Colin Flanagan presented about Kazakstan where he lived for 2.5 years through Peace Corps Program. While in Kazakstan he worked on business development initiatives and training. He is fluent in Russian and learned the language during his stay. He spoke about the use of the Russian language throughout all former Soviet Republics in the context of local cultures. Colin's presentation generated great interest and many questions from the audience.
