¡Feria sin fronteras!

This year we held our first annual Hispanic Cultural Event, Feria sin fronteras, put on by the Creighton chapter of the Spanish Honor Society, Sigma Delta Pi. Feria sin fronteras hosted a number of cultural events ranging from music and dance to poetry recitations. We served food from a number of Spanish-speaking countries, including tamales, empanadas, chori-pan, tortilla española, frijoles negros with arroz, horchata and tamarindo. The best part is that it was all free!

What: Feria sin fronteras (Festival Without Borders)
Where: Lower Saint John's (west side entrance)
When: Tuesday, September 27th from 6-8 p.m.
Cost: Free

Service
Completely Kids (formerly known as Campfire USA) is an after school program for students of all ages. They are in need of volunteers to help with homework/play with the students. We have two sites set up with this program that we will need weekly volunteers for.

On Tuesdays, we will be going to Marrs Middle School @ 3:30-5:15pm. They need about 3 volunteers each week.

On Thursdays, we will be going to Gomez Heritage Middle School @ 4-6 pm. If you are interested in/have any questions about these opportunities, please contact: SpencerCloud@creighton.edu and/or MorganFreilich@creighton.edu

Beginning the week after fall break, we will also need volunteers for the Intercultural Senior Center. Volunteers will spend time interacting/practicing English with senior residents at this site every other week for approximately 2 hours. The day & time for this site will be established and emailed out to you all soon.
If you are interested in/have any questions about this opportunity, please contact:TBA

De la cocina
De La Cocina is a fun, deliciously cultural event where students learn to create different dishes from a variety of Hispanic cultures. Each event costs $5 (a major steal!) and is held at someone's house/apartment/dorm . We have experienced food from Argentina, Colombia, Mexico, Costa Rica, Spain.

The next de la Cocina will take place in early December and will feature food/drink from Mexico. More details about this event will be sent out as the date gets closer.

Free Academic Tutoring
Skutt Center room 209 will be reserved every Tuesday 6-7pm for members of the Spanish Club. Feel free to stop by throughout the semester to work on homework, work with a tutor and practice your español! If you are interested in/have questions about this opportunity, please contact: BrianFarrell@creighton.edu

Translation
Throughout the year the Spanish Club tries to put its skills to use by helping translate for various organizations in the community. Club members have helped out with projects for the Joslyn Art Museum, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Creighton Dental School's "Give Kids a Smile" and the Juan Diego Center. For more information, please email the Spanish Club representative.

Membership
To request membership into the club and be placed on the ListServe, please contact our current president, chloesmith@creighton.edu.
