PLS Major

General Political Science Major Program

The following are the requirements for the General Political Science Major Program.

General Course Core

Students must complete each of the following:

  • PLS121 American Government and Politics
  • PLS215 Comparative Political Systems
  • PLS310 Political Science Research Methods (Spring term only)
  • PLS591 Senior Research Seminar (Fall term only)

Area Requirements

Successful completion of a minimum of 21 hours at the 200 level or higher with at least one, three-credit course in each of the following area.  (Note:  Area requirements must be met with courses.)

Political Philosophy and Theory (1 Course)

Supporting Courses

12 hours of course credits at the 200 level or higher in an approved department or topic area.  Such courses must be approved by the student's academic adviser, should follow a coherent theme or topic, must be clearly related to the study of politics, and may not include courses used to fulfill Core requirements.

A minimum 2.0 QPA is required in all courses needed to complete the major.  A 2.0 QPA is required in the supporting courses.
