Medical Anthropology Minor
Program Description: The medical anthropology minor provides a holistic perspective utilizing both cultural and biological approaches to investigate human experiences of illness, suffering and healing. The minor explores how culture shapes healing systems; examines the relationships between healing and other social institutions; and investigates the political and economic influences on disease patterns and health outcomes. Students also learn anthropological research methods essential to medical anthropology. They select a specific culture area for an appreciation of deep-rooted assumptions in another culture and two electives. This minor will enhance the student's ability to provide health care to the cultural diverse populations that characterize contemporary America as well as providing health care in the global community.
