Social Work Requirements

Graduation Requirements beginning 2011 – 2012

 

The following are the requirements for a degree in social work (F=fall, S=spring, and MS=summer)

 

___SWK 261 (F/S) Introduction to Social Social Welfare (3 hrs)

 

___SWK 275 (F) Human Behavior and the Social Environment I (4 hrs)

 

 ___SWK 345 (F) Practice I – Social Work with Individuals and Families (3 hrs)

 

___SWK 346 (F) Pre-Practicum (1 hr) 

 

___SWK 351 (S) Economics, Policy, and Social Welfare (3 hrs) – Certified Writing

 

___SWK 359 (S) Practice II – Social Work with Groups (3 hrs)

 

___SWK 435 (F) Practice III – Advocacy, Injustice, Oppression, and Ethical decision Making (3 hrs)  Certified Writing

 

___SWK 460 (F) Field Practicum Seminar I (2 hrs)

 

___SWK 461 (F) Field Practicum I (4 hrs)___SWK 480 (S) Field Practicum Seminar II (2 hrs)

 

___SWK 481 (S) Field Practicum II (4 hrs)

 

Pre-requisite/Co-requisite Courses___PSY 111 (f/s) Introductory Psychology (3 hrs)___SOC 101 (f/s) General Sociology (3 hrs)

 

___PSY 313 (F/S) research Methods and Statistics I OR ___SOC 312 Quantitative Methods in the Social Sciences (3 hrs) AND ___ 314 Statistics for the Social Sciences (4 hrs)      

*SWK 261 has a 20-hour service learning commitment in addition to the 3 hour course work*SWK 345 has a 16-hour service learning commitment in addition to the 4 hour course work*SWK 460/480 have a 240 hour practicum comment per semester (16 hours per week)

*Students may elect to take PSY 313 to meet the requirements for SOC 312/314.  The caveat is that upon applying to a master’s degree in social work that program may require an additional stats or research course for acceptance in the program.
