Summer School in Ireland Courses

The Courses

Courses are accredited through Creighton University. Dr. Dugan will formally advise registered students during Creighton's summer registration in April. Students take two courses: HIS 395 and ENG 314.

HIS 395: History of Modern Ireland (3 credits) -- Dr. Dugan

This course explores Irish history from 1798 to the present day.  Particular attention is given to the intersection of history and culture as evidenced in literature, music, and film.

ENG 314: Explorations of the Essay (3 credits) -- Dr. Whipple

This course invites students to both study and practice the personal essay, examining this category often called "creative nonfiction" or the "fourth genre." As both writers and readers, we will consider how identity is represented in our own and others' texts. English 314 is a Certified Writing Course.
