The Creighton Office of Online Learning is becoming the Center for eLearning and Academic Technologies (CeLAĪ)!

 

Responding to the ever-changing higher education landscape in a nimble manner is critical to the success of Creighton University. The Center for eLearning and Academic Innovation will help position the University to identify and take advantage of opportunities in this dynamic environment.

Repurposing the Creighton Office of Online Learning to CeLAĪ provides an opportunity for a more comprehensive and strategic approach to planning for and supporting innovations in teaching and learning. Under the direction and guidance of the Provost, CeLAI is responsible for the development of the University's virtual campus, exploration of ideas for creative/innovative educational programming and academically grounded leadership/management of academic technologies. The development of CeLAĪ will occur during the next several months and will be operational in summer 2013. The core responsibilities of CeLAĪ are outlined below, additional details will be disseminated as the creation of this new Center progresses.

  • One stop shop to assist with the exploration and development of new program proposals
  • Phase 2: Provide support for the exploration and development of innovations related to teaching and learning

 

  • Identify faculty and student academic technology needs
  • Select, evaluate, and identify end user interface needs for academic technologies
  • Professional development, training, and consultation in the use of academic technologies
  • Institutional planning and administrative support for distance education
  • Assessment/evaluation for distance programming
  • Faculty preparation and support for distance teaching
  • Coordination of support services for distance learners
  • Instructional design for online, campus, blended education

During this transition the Creighton Office for Online Learning (COOL), under the direction of the Graduate School, continues to provide development and support for online courses consistent with quality educational programming and congruent with accreditation requirements. COOL is charged with providing a framework in which University resources can be leveraged for developing, evaluating, delivering, and supporting quality online education grounded in the tenets of sound pedagogy, infused with Ignatian values, centered on service to students, disciplines and professions.

 

Faculty and Administrators:  COOL is designed to be a resource for faculty and administrators seeking to develop online courses.  COOL has been charged with coordinating the development of online courses, including policies, processes, and faculty preparation for teaching in the online environment. 

Staff:   This office serves as the resource for staff in assisting faculty in the creation of online courses.

Notice to Distance Students:  Creighton is fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, an approved regional accreditor. Currently, institutions offering online programming are required to provide distance students a contract for each state in the event a student wishes to make a complaint about the distance program or course. Creighton University is currently in the process of working with individual states to comply with state authorization regulations. The attached document summarizes the University's status of current state authorizations.
