Distinguished Service Staff Award

UNIVERSITY POLICY WITH REGARD TO THE CONFERRING OF THE DISTINGUISHED SERVICE STAFF AWARD

Time: This award is ordinarily conferred at the President’s Christmas luncheon.

Standards:
The recipient of this award must qualify according to the following criteria: Non-faculty, non-administrator employee classified as either professional, clerical, maintenance/service, or technical. Employed at Creighton for a minimum of six full-time years or the equivalent hours for a part-time employee. Distinguished record of service to Creighton University including significant contributions to a particular area or department. This service should reflect credit upon this University. The recipient should have demonstrated a high degree of dedication to the job; should embody the Creighton Credo in his/her work and in his/her life; and should function in his/her position with appropriate interpersonal skills.

Procedure:

  • A printed form seeking recommendations for the recipient of this award shall be prepared by the Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Public Relations and offered to all members of the staff, faculty and administration who may wish to participate in the selection.

  • All names suggested, from whatever source, for this award shall be referred to the University Committee for Public Honors and Events. A sub-committee of the Committee, appointed by the Chairman, shall screen each possible recipient and recommend at least five finalists for discussion by the Committee.

  • When favorable recommendation is to be made, this Committee shall certify that the individual meets standards set forth by the University for the award, and this certification shall be accompanied by a citation of service which forms a basis for the award.

  • The Vice President for University Relations shall present the report of the Committee to the President of the University for final approval.

  • Announcement of the award shall come directly from the President.

  • Ordinarily, the University will confer no more than one such award at the President’s Christmas Luncheon.


Description: A typed citation stating reasons for selection, recipient’s contributions, length and quality of service, special abilities, etc. The citation will be signed by the University president and the recipient’s respective dean. A plaque will also be awarded that bears the seal of the University along with a bonus check, amount to be determined by the President.

Each year Creighton University confers this award to a non-faculty, non-administrator employee classified as either professional, clerical, maintenance/service, or technical. The recipient should have demonstrated a high degree of dedication to the job; he/she should embody the Creighton Credo in his/her work and in his/her life; and should function in his/her position with appropriate interpersonal skills.
