It is natural that we each respond to the challenges of life in our own individual ways. As the old boating saying goes, "You can't always direct the winds, but you can adjust your sails!" In this interactive training session, we will discuss challenging experiences (e.g., disappointments, unexpected events, upsetting changes, etc.) and how they impact our professional attitudes and behaviors. There are specific actions we can take to help ourselves deal more effectively with these situations, both proactively and reactively. Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape!

Eating Healthy, Well and Wise for Your Heart

We have all heard, "You are what you eat." Research has shown that this statement is especially true in regards to heart disease. There is a strong link connecting several dietary nutrients with either increasing or decreasing your risk of heart disease. During this session, you will learn how to modify your diet to help reduce your risk of heart disease. You will also learn simple strategies to modify even your unhealthy recipes to make them more heart healthy.

Travel 480 with us as we explore the different areas of your computer that you may not visit often - the Control Panel, system properties, and other customization options. We'll also be looking under the hood to keep your PC running at optimal performance. What is the regular maintenance that you should be doing? How much space or RAM do you have? And don't forget securing your PC! What should you be doing to protect your PC and yourself? Along the route, we'll be tossing out some tips to make cruising along more enjoyable. This class is a workshop designed to ensure that it is working for you! Some specific areas that we'll focus on are the physical skills of communicating, first impressions, attire, etiquette, creating and effectively delivering a point of view, the positioning of valued information and finally, self promotion.

As the demographics in Nebraska continue to change, so do the challenges in giving excellent healthcare. The number of diverse people coming through our doors is increasing. Culturally competent care has become a growing need and concern in healthcare today like no other time in history. This interactive and engaging session will explore cultural competence in an eye-opening way. The focus is three-fold: 1) Understand our own cultural world view, 2) Acquire knowledge regarding the care of different cultural groups, and 3) Learn skills that will allow us to give excellent care regardless of the patient's cultural background.

Building Healthy Work Relationships through Communication

Tired of the downers? Want to smile when you come to work? In today's economic times, it is vitally important to maintain healthy relationships at work. This workshop will provide suggestions of how to effectively work with your co-workers and supervisors to become more collaborative in day-to-day communication and in committee work; as well as give tips for how to handle those "difficult" individuals who may create conflict in such situations.
