Session 2: September 16 & 17, 2008

  • Discuss gender roles in Hispanic culture
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using Spanish alphabet letters: B, V, R, and RR
  • Use and correctly pronounce Spanish terms related to calendar and anatomy

Session 3: September 23 & 24, 2008

  • Discuss aspects of Latino cultures related to family  and childbirth.
  • Correctly patient and professional commands using Spanish alphabet letters: B, V, R, and RR
  • Correctly use idiomatic phrases using the verb “tener”  and basic vocabulary and phrases related to childbirth and finances

Session 4: September 30 & October 1, 2008

  • Recognize non-verbal communication common to Latino cultures
  • Correctly name various professions in Spanish
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using Spanish letters, J & G

Session 5: October 7 & 8, 2008

  • Discuss Hispanic belief systems regarding health care and health care professionals
  • Use and correctly pronounce basic Spanish phrases using  the polite idiom,  “Me trae”
  • Correctly pronounce patient commands using Spanish letters Z, C, H, CH and S

Session 6: October 14 & 15, 2008

  • Compare and contrast Latino cultural orientation to health care with that of Dominant Culture of U.S.
  • Use and pronounce Spanish terms necessary for giving location directions
  • Correctly pronounce patient commands using Spanish letters,  N, N with tilde, L and LL

Session 7: October 21 & 22, 2008

  • Discuss Hispanic cultural attitudes toward death
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using the Spanish letters F, P,  Q and X
  • Use and pronounce Spanish vocabulary related to death and dying

Session 8: October 27 & 28, 2008

  • Describe holistic approach to health care for Hispanics and discuss mental health issues for Hispanics
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using Spanish letter combinations: AI, AY, IA, IE, EI AND EY
  • Use and pronounce Spanish vocabulary related to color and clothing

Session 9: November 4 & 5, 2008

  • Describe common foods used in Latino culture
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using Spanish letter combinations: IO, OI, OY, AU, and UA
  • Use and pronounce Spanish vocabulary related to food and drink

Session 10: November 11 & 12, 2008

  • Describe Hispanic beliefs related to emergency situations
  • Correctly pronounce patient and professional commands using Spanish letters: UE, EU, UY, IU, and UO
  • Use and correctly pronounce Spanish vocabulary related to emergency situations
