An integrated living/learning experience for gifted and talented students completing 9th, 10th, and 11th grades
Arete is a residential program on the Creighton University campus designed to allow students to explore the many exciting facets of college life. It is open to academically-talented high school students completing 9th, 10th and 11th grades. Students will enroll in a broad and challenging course of study. In a simulation of the college experience, they will participate in four mini courses exposing them to four separate academic fields. The academic experience is balanced with a variety of social and recreational activities allowing students to relax and enjoy the company of their peers.
Instructors include Creighton professors, master teachers from the metropolitan area, and professionals from the community.
Students are housed in the residence halls staffed by the Program Director, College Resident Advisors, and Program Assistants, who all work together to ensure that the student's experiences on campus are positive.
Arete is a Greek word and means "excellence," indicating the program's commitment to develop quality scholarship and performance in its students.
Students will start their week on Creighton's campus by spending Sunday evening at the movies and a Get-to-Know-You picnic. A time to relax in front of the silver screen in Creighton's Hixon-Lied Building and a chance to get to know other gifted and talented students. The next several fun-filled evenings will include activities such as cooking-out at Mahoney Park, playing Laser Tag and so much more.
