Super Sizzling Silk Screening

Create and design your own images and transfer them onto paper, clothes or anything else you can imagine.  Bring any item with you to camp that you think needs a bit of artistic flair: t-shirt, jeans or a journal.  This class will teach you the basics of silk screening so you will be able to transfer your own logo or design onto any flat surface.

Jennifer C. Shannon, M.S., taught art at Monroe Middle School.  She has a Masters in curriculum and development from Peru State College and a BS degree in fashion design from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.  She has been a popular Ad Astra instructor for the past 2 years.

Computer Security 101

In this class we will look at all aspects of computer security, from physical security to online monitoring of passwords and surfing habits.  Are you safe when you surf the web?  How about "listening" in on wireless networks?  This class will offer hands-on practice in informaton security and how to protect yourself from hackers, crackers and phishers.

Terry Begley is the Information Technology Coordinator for the College of Business at Creighton University.  He has worked with personal computers and network technologies in 1981.  In addition to maintaining the computer technology in the College of Business, he teaches introduction to Computing and Networking classes for the College.

Finding Your Theatre Voice

Have you ever wondered how stage actors train their voices for stage work?  This course will introduce students to various voal games and exercises to improve vocal technique.  Several examples from stage monologues and scenes will be used to help students work on various character vocal aspects.  Students will be exposed to a wide range of vocal training, from dialects to volume and enunciation.  Several improvisation exercises will also be used to maximize the lessons.  Come on - let us hear you!

Michael McCandless, M.A., is on the theatre faculty of Creighton University and has been teaching acting for over twenty years. In addition, he is a professional actor who has appeared in numerous stage productions in Omaha and New England and has received numerous awards for his stage work.

Interactive class talks and a field trip about exciting people and places - like Lewis and Clark, Standing Bear, Buffalo Bill, Father Flanagan, Malcolm X, TV and movie stars, millionaires, billionares, saints and sinners and railroads, stockyards, parks, museums, floods, blizzards, tornadoes - they all brought drama to Omaha!

Thomas Kuhlman, Ph.D., Associate Professor Emeritus, joined the Creighton English Dept. in 1967.  He has taught Nebraska history, architecture, and creative writing as well as American, English, and world literature.  He has written five plays and several books, the most recent of which is Baroque NEBRASKA, "An Architectural Entertainment."  He has been an officer in numerous Omaha cultural organizations.

Mass Media & Modern Culture

Student will explore the different facets of the media and how Americans are influenced by its long-reaching effects on the human psyche.  Magazines, newspapers, advertisements, television, and the internet will all be discussed and analyzed as students pick apart which ones fascinate or frustrate us as consumers of mass media

Tara Oxley, M.A., is a language arts teacher for Omaha Public Schools.  She has eleven years of experience teaching middle and high school students and is also the Director of Ad Astra and Arete.

It's a Matter of Life & Death

Discover the world of emergency medical technicians (EMT) and Paramedics.  You will have a chance to experience what paramedics do when they take care of emergency patients, including CPR, and handling patients with medical and traumatic emergencies.

Bill Raynovich, NREMTP, EdD, directs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Education Program at Creighton University.  He has been active in EMS for more than 40 years as a paramedic and as an EMS educator.
